History
In the early 1960's, most calculators comprised of complicated gearing systems and called "calculators" rather than adding machines because of their complex gear systems that allowed them to do other calculations such as multiplication and division.Then, in 1963, Bell Punch Co. LTD and Sumlock-Comptometer LTD created what they claimed was the world's first fully electronic desktop calcul

It used dozens of vacuum tubes similar to early computers along with other parts too.The Friden 130 was released about the same time, but it used a CRT television display and transistors. 1964-67 the large desktop calculators that had thousands of transistors and cost thousands to, began replacing electro mechanical ones, the most popular desktop calculators being the Sharp Compet CS-10A and Canon's Canola 130. 1965 Texas instruments starts working on a handheld calculator called the "Cal-Tech".

1970 Busicom approaches Intel to develop 12 chips for their calculators and Intel completes the task on one chip. The first "pocket calculators" begin to sell (despite them not actually fitting in you pocket) including the Sharp QT-8B which uses rechargeable batteries.1971 Bowmar starts selling their cigarette box sized calculator the 901B.1975 calculators are as affordable as ever and teachers try to ban the use of them in the classroom in fear that students will not learn math.1979 LCD calculators
